A team from ColdHubs conducted a detailed second level survey, to strategic markets and farms, where solar powered walk-in cold rooms will soon be installed. The objective of the survey was to assess the compelling need for cold storage.

The survey, which was supported by our newest partner, Feed the Future Partnering for Innovation took the ColdHubs team to 10 high potential food production (farms) and consumption centers (markets) all across Nigeria.

ColdHubs realized that 90% of farmers, retailers and wholesalers, do not have where they store their produce, most of them keep their produce in their stall and majority of the produce spoils quickly due to poor storage methods being used, to avoid spoilage they sell off as quickly as possible.

The team also discovered that farmers, retailers and wholesalers need to be educated on the necessity of using cooling to preserve their produce so that the produce will stay fresh, they will have high quality produce available for sale and ultimately increase their income.
